Airship hangar in Poznań

The Airship hangar in Poznań was a large military facility built in the early 1900s to house and maintain airships for flight operations. Today only concrete foundation remains and mooring blocks are scattered across different spots, including a park and a green strip along a main avenue.

The facility was built in 1913 by a German construction company and housed several airships from Germany and Poland during its early years. After World War One it was taken over by Polish forces and repurposed for training operations.

The site played a role in developing Polish aviation expertise, as officers trained here using equipment left behind from earlier military operations. This connection shaped how the location is remembered in the city's history.

The remains are easy to spot since they are located in recognizable parts of the city, spread between a main avenue and a nearby park. Plan time to walk between both areas to see the different pieces of what survives.

The nearby field was named Zeppelin Meadow, a reminder of when airships once landed and waited there. Surprisingly this peaceful landing ground later became a battlefield where tanks from different nations fought.
