Schronisko PTTK na Hali Kondratowej, Mountain hut in Tatra National Park, Poland
Schronisko PTTK na Hali Kondratowej is a mountain hut in Tatra National Park, set in the Kondratowa meadow at 1333 meters above sea level. It offers sleeping space for around 20 people across three rooms and sits in an open alpine valley surrounded by grassy slopes.
The first shelter on this meadow was built before 1910 as a ski hut by Jerzy Uznański, then destroyed by an avalanche in 1913. The site was rebuilt and has been in continuous use since, showing how strongly mountain communities held on to this place.
Inside the hut, wooden carved portraits and book quotations from Władysław Krygowski, a Carpathian Mountains writer, decorate the walls and give the interior a personal feel. His presence shapes how the space looks and how visitors experience it today.
The hut can be reached by a blue-marked trail from Kuźnice or through routes from neighboring valleys, with the walk taking several hours. Mountain weather changes fast here, so sturdy footwear and rain gear are worth bringing regardless of the forecast.
In 1953, a stone avalanche from the slopes of Długi Giewont sent a boulder of around 30 tons crashing through a corner of the dining room. That rock is still visible inside the hut today, left exactly where it landed.
