Old Guardhouse in Łazienki, Military guardhouse in Łazienki Park, Warsaw, Poland.
The Old Guardhouse in Łazienki Park is a neoclassical structure with four Doric columns positioned near the Palace on the Isle. The building has a compact footprint and was restored to match its original design details.
The structure was erected between 1791 and 1792 under architect Johann Christian Kammsetzer's direction as a protective facility for royal palace access. Over the following decades, the building underwent different uses while maintaining its role as a park landmark.
The building reflects the neoclassical design traditions of Warsaw around 1800 and now serves as a venue for rotating exhibitions. It shows how defensive structures were designed to be both functional and visually refined during that period.
The site is accessible through several park entrances, most conveniently from Ujazdów Avenue where public transport stops are located. The terrain is flat and easy to navigate on foot, with plenty of space to explore the grounds surrounding the building.
The building endured World War II destruction and was later comprehensively restored, with original architectural elements carefully recreated. This restoration preserved both the structure and its historical importance within the park landscape.
