Tarnów Water Tower

The Tarnów water tower is a steel structure that rises 37 meters high and is supported by 24 curved columns holding a large toroidal tank with a 28-meter diameter. It stores 3000 cubic meters of water and maintains pressure for residents living in the elevated areas of the city, particularly in the Falklandy district.

Engineers from Warsaw University of Technology designed this structure in the late 1970s, with construction completed in the early 1980s. It was built during a period of rapid urban growth when the city was modernizing its infrastructure to serve an expanding population.

Local residents affectionately call this structure "Bania", a name that reflects how the tower has become woven into the fabric of daily urban life and local identity. This informal nickname shows how an industrial object has transformed into a familiar landmark that people recognize and talk about.

The tower is located in the Jasna district and is visible from many points around the city, making it easy to spot as a navigation landmark. Best views are available from various vantage points throughout the area, especially during clear weather.

This is the only functioning toroidal water tank in Poland, setting it apart from all other water towers in the country. The doughnut-shaped design is rare worldwide and represents an unusual engineering solution that visitors seldom encounter elsewhere.
