The fort contains defensive structures covering 626.8 square meters of built area within a total site of 33,584 square meters near Golikówka Street.

Constructed in 1899 as part of the Kraków Fortress system, the fort provided fire support to Fort 49½a Mogiła and protected the Vistula River valley crossing.

The fort received monument status in 1994 with registration number A-973, representing a significant example of late 19th-century military architecture.

The Municipal Building Authority in Kraków manages the fort, organizing maintenance work and lease arrangements for the historical structure.

The fort incorporated water-filled moats from the Vistula River into its defense system, earning it the designation of a water fort.
