Fort Śliwického, Military fort in Praga-Północ, Warsaw, Poland.
Fort Śliwického is a fortification in Warsaw's Praga-Północ district featuring earthen-brick structures with two gun emplacements surrounded by a wet moat and masonry counter-scarp walls. The site was designed as a military installation with defensive features typical of 1800s European fortifications.
Built between 1835 and 1836, this fort served as the first forward position of the Warsaw Citadel during the Russian occupation period. The installation was part of the defensive strategy controlling the city under foreign rule.
The fort bears the name of Second Lieutenant Julian Śliwicki, who sustained fatal injuries fighting for Russian forces in the November Uprising.
The grounds now contain residential buildings for police officers, with some structures dating to the 1970s. Access to the historic fortification may be restricted as the site remains in official or private use.
The southern gun emplacement underwent renovation by ZOMO units through community work, with a plaque inside the fort commemorating this effort. This tablet records the restoration work carried out by paramilitary volunteers during the Soviet era.
