Sacred Heart chapel in Zakopane Jaszczurówka

Sacred Heart Chapel stands on a stone foundation with open porches and traditional wooden shingle roofing topped by a small bell tower. The entire structure is built from wood and displays the characteristic features of Zakopane architectural style with visible log construction.

The chapel was designed by architect Stanisław Witkiewicz and funded by the Uznański family, with construction completed in 1907. The building took three years to complete and was established as a place of worship for visitors and locals alike.

The interior features wooden altars designed like highland cottages and stained glass windows with religious imagery. This blend of craft and faith reflects the local connection between building traditions and spiritual life.

The chapel sits along Oswald Balzer Road, the main route toward Morskie Oko lake and easily accessible for hikers. It remains an active place of worship managed by Marian priests from nearby Toporowa Cyrla.

When it opened, the chapel was an innovative example of applying Zakopane Style to religious architecture. This early project helped establish the local building approach beyond residential homes.
