Church of Saint John the Baptist in Kraków, Wooden church in Krzesławice district, Kraków, Poland
The Church of Saint John the Baptist is a wooden structure built between 1633 and 1648, featuring a simple single aisle with an attached tower. The building combines traditional construction techniques with religious function and displays characteristic features of wooden architecture from that era.
The building was constructed in the first half of the 17th century near the Ukrainian border and was relocated to Kraków in the 1980s to prevent its demolition. This relocation preserved one of the rare examples of Polish wooden architecture from destruction.
The church serves as an active place of worship and demonstrates traditional forms of Polish wooden construction in an urban setting. It represents a building style that has become rare in modern city environments.
The building is easy to find since it is located near other historical sites and holds regular religious services. Visitors should remember that this is an active place of worship, so respectful behavior during religious events is important.
The building is one of only two remaining wooden churches within Kraków's city boundaries and represents an almost vanished building technique. Its presence amid a modern city makes it a special rarity in the European architectural landscape.
