Our Lady of Częstochowa church in Kraków

Our Lady of Czestochowa church in Nowa Huta is a modern Catholic church with a distinctive steel structure and a glass roof shaped like a crystal. The building features white interior walls and stands beside an 18-meter (59-foot) bell tower.

Construction of the church began in 1982, following a lengthy approval process that Karol Wojtyła initiated as cardinal during the 1970s. The building emerged after years of administrative procedures in Poland at that time.

The name honors the famous shrine in Czestochowa, a major pilgrimage destination in Poland that draws believers from across the country. Here, worshippers gather to express their connection to this widespread devotion.

The building was designed to resemble a tree, with the entrance acting as roots and trunk while the roof forms the crown of branches above. This organic shape makes the church an unexpected architectural work in what was an industrial city.
