Church of Saint Adalbert in Szczawnica

Church of Saint Adalbert is a Catholic house of worship in Szczawnica built in the neo-Gothic style from local stone and brick between the 1880s and 1890s. The interior features a spacious main nave with high windows and a three-sided choir area.

The parish was first mentioned in written records around the mid-14th century, though the current stone building dates to the 1880s-1890s under the leadership of Father Jan Oleksik. This later construction shows how the growing town invested in a larger house of worship.

The walls inside show painted religious scenes created in the 1920s, while the wooden benches and decorations around the altar follow the neo-Gothic style popular when the building was finished.

The church is open for visitors during regular worship services throughout the week and on Sundays. It is best to check service times in advance or plan your visit around public gathering times to experience the full atmosphere.

The church attic shelters a rare species of bat that has made its home in the rafters over many years. This unusual cohabitation shows how religious buildings sometimes serve double duty as habitats for wildlife.
