Church of St. Mary in Śrem

The Church of St. Mary in Śrem is a late medieval parish building topped with a striking tower over 60 meters high crowned by a copper dome in Baroque style. The interior displays star vaulting, altars from the Baroque period, and colored windows with religious scenes.

Construction of the church began around 1393 following the relocation of Śrem to the right bank of the Warta River. Several renovations and expansions followed over the following centuries, shaped by the needs of the growing town.

This parish church has been the spiritual heart of Śrem for centuries and continues to shape the town center today. Visitors can see how the community has expressed its faith through layers of artistic choices made across different periods.

The building is easy to locate in the town center and can be viewed from the outside, with the tower being particularly visible from various angles around the square. Visitors should note that access may be limited during religious services.

The sacristy houses a Renaissance painting depicting the Virgin Mary with two saints connected to Polish history, a work that remains largely unknown to most visitors. This artwork reveals the depth of artistic heritage hidden within the building.
