Mauzoleum bitwy pod Ostrołęką, Memorial mausoleum in Ostrołęka, Poland
The mausoleum stands on a former fortress site surrounded by a moat, featuring a central hall with a sarcophagus containing remains of fallen soldiers.
The structure commemorates the Battle of Ostrołęka of 1831, where Polish insurgent forces under General Jan Skrzynecki fought against Russian troops led by Field Marshal Ivan Dybich.
The mausoleum, designed by architect Romuald Zerych, represents a significant monument of Polish military heritage and serves as a gathering place for national ceremonies.
Visitors can access multimedia exhibitions in the underground chambers and observe replicas of Kingdom of Congress artillery pieces displayed around the fort grounds.
The construction of this memorial began in 1930 for the battle centenary, but wartime damage and various challenges delayed its completion until recent European Union funding enabled restoration.
