Muzeum Miejskie "Dom Gerharta Hauptmanna"

The Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus is a museum in a Jugendstil villa from 1901 that displays manuscripts, letters, photographs, and personal items of the German playwright. The building presents different aspects of his life and creative work.

The building was constructed in 1901 and served as the residence of Nobel Prize laureate Gerhart Hauptmann until his death in 1946. One of the most influential German-language authors of the 20th century lived and worked in this house.

The entrance hall displays expressionist paintings by Johannes von Avenarius that depict scenes from the writer's notable dramas. These artworks greet visitors immediately and make his literary significance visible in the space.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and offers guided tours and educational programs. Visitors should check ahead as opening hours may vary depending on the season.

The Art Nouveau architecture of the house with its original decorative elements showcases the artistic style of the early 1900s. The details and design reveal the craftsmanship of that period immediately to visitors.
