Przełęcz Nowickiego, Mountain pass in High Tatras, Poland.
Przełęcz Nowickiego is a mountain pass at 2105 meters elevation positioned between Buczynowe Czuby and Wielka Buczynowa Turnia peaks within the eastern ridge of Świnica. The col connects two prominent rock formations in this high alpine area of the eastern High Tatras.
The pass was first documented as reached on August 19, 1902, when a climbing party including Franciszek Henryk Nowicki summited the col. This early ascent was part of the exploration that led to the development of the Orla Perć route, which later became one of the most traveled alpine trails in the Tatras.
The pass takes its name from Franciszek Henryk Nowicki, a Polish poet whose writings celebrated the Tatra Mountains and who conceived the famous Orla Perć trail. The name links this location to the artistic heritage and cultural identity of the region.
The pass is reached via the red-marked Orla Perć trail, which features chains at the most exposed sections for safety support. Visitors should approach with extra caution during wet conditions or snow, as the rocky passages are exposed and demand experience.
The northern side of the col drops into a pronounced trench descending toward Dolina Pańszczycy, while the southern side descends through a narrower gully into Dolinka Buczynowa. These two opposing descents offer contrasting steepness and landscape character.
