Amor on Pegasus sculpture, Memorial statue in Nicolaus Copernicus Park, Wrocław, Poland.
Amor on Pegasus depicts a mythological scene with Cupid seated on the winged horse, standing about 2 meters tall on a limestone base. The sculpture is positioned in the eastern section of the park where visitors can approach it along several pathways.
Theodor von Gosen created this sculpture, which was first displayed in 1913 at the Centennial Exhibition near Centennial Hall. Following the exhibition, the work was relocated to the park where it has remained since.
The sculpture brings together Cupid and Pegasus, two figures from ancient mythology that stand side by side in the park. The pairing invites visitors to reflect on how different classical symbols appear together in this setting.
The memorial stands behind the former Leipziger Palace along the Old Town Promenade, making it easy to reach on foot. The park features well-maintained pathways and is designed for wheelchair access, allowing all visitors to view the artwork comfortably.
The eyes of the two figures use different materials: marble for Cupid and topaz for Pegasus, adding intricate detail to the work. This fine craftsmanship shows the sculptor's careful attention when creating the mythological scene.
