The structure commemorates the Polish 2nd Corps soldiers who captured Monte Cassino on May 18, 1944, during a decisive World War II battle.
The monument includes inscriptions of the Monte Cassino Cross and emblems of five Polish military units that participated in the campaign.
The memorial stands at the intersection of General Anders Street and Krasiński Gardens, next to the National Archaeological Museum in Warsaw.
The 220-tonne monument required special ground stabilization techniques, including six-meter deep foundation holes to support its massive structure.
