The Germaniadenkmal was a monument in Gliwice featuring a female figure personifying Germany standing atop an octagonal sandstone pedestal. The statue was crafted by Berlin sculptor Ferdinand Hartzer, while the pedestal was designed by C. Hanke from Wrocław.
The monument was unveiled in 1874 to commemorate soldiers who fell in the Franco-Prussian War. It originally stood at Plac Piastów but was relocated to Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz in 1928.
The monument represented German national ideology through its architectural design, incorporating imperial symbols and a crown of the German Empire at its summit.
The monument's location today is difficult to confirm since it disappeared during World War II. Visitors are advised to explore the area of present-day Chrobry Park, where local accounts suggest the monument may have been buried.
The monument vanished without trace in 1945 and was never found again. Despite its important role in the city's history, its exact fate remains unclear and a mystery for local historians.
