Postawna, Mountain summit in Lower Silesia, Poland.
Formberg is a summit in Lower Silesia, in the Sudeten mountain range, close to the border between Poland and Germany. The top sits above forested slopes and looks out over a broad stretch of rolling terrain with other peaks visible in most directions.
The mountain was part of Prussian territory for centuries, which is why it carried a German name until the end of World War II. After 1945, when the region passed to Poland, it received a Polish name, though the older name never fully disappeared from use.
The name Formberg comes from the German-speaking period of the region, and the old name is still used informally by many hikers on both sides of the border. This cross-border familiarity gives the summit a quiet role as a shared landmark between two countries.
Several marked trails lead to the top from different starting points, and the ascent is manageable for most walkers. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the paths can be wet or slippery depending on the season.
The summit sits almost exactly on the Polish-German border, meaning a visitor standing at the top is technically in two countries at once. This makes it one of the few peaks in the region that can be reached by trails from both sides without any special permit.
