Potaczkowa, Mountain summit in Gorce Mountains, Poland
Potaczkowa is a mountain summit in the Gorce range standing at 746 meters with a flat top that opens to views across the Beskid Mountains and surrounding ridges. The peak features wooded slopes below and grassland clearings typical of this region.
The name comes from the Potaczek family, who held substantial forest and pasture lands in the Gorce region during the 1700s. This naming reflects the early settlement patterns around the higher meadows.
The summit cross, installed in 2000, mirrors the design of Mount Giewont's famous cross and creates a place for reflection and pause. Many hikers view it as an important landmark and gathering point on the ridge.
Several marked trails lead to the summit, including black-marked paths from Podobin village and green routes from Olszówka that total around 16 kilometers. The terrain is exposed on higher sections, so be prepared for weather changes.
The steep northeastern slopes attract paragliders who use the thermal currents rising from the valleys. Golden eagles also nest in the rocky areas nearby, making wildlife observation possible during walks.
