Ioannes XXIII monument in Wrocław

The Ioannes XXIII monument depicts Pope John XXIII in liturgical garments with his right hand raised in blessing. This granite figure stands about 5.2 meters tall in the Ostrów Tumski district, surrounded by other religious and historical structures.

The monument was unveiled in June 1968 to honor Pope John XXIII's recognition of Polish administration in western territories following World War II. Sculptor Ludwika Nitschowa created this work during a period of significant political and religious transformation.

The inscription 'Pacem in Terris' carved into the base reflects Pope John XXIII's message about peace and reconciliation. Visitors can experience this connection to his broader vision through the monument's placement in the city's historical center.
