Old City Town Hall, Szczecin, Gothic town hall in Szczecin, Poland
The Old City Town Hall of Szczecin is a three-story brick building with pointed arches, ornate tracery patterns, and decorative details from late medieval municipal architecture. The structure shows the characteristic features of the Gothic style that was common in northern Europe.
Construction of the town hall began in the early 15th century and it became the center of city administration for generations. By 1879, its role as a government seat ended and the building was converted to residential use.
The building houses the National Museum of Szczecin, which displays exhibitions about how the city developed over centuries. Visitors can learn about local traditions and history while walking through rooms in an authentic Gothic structure.
The town hall sits at the northeastern corner of the market square and is easy to find when exploring the city. The building functions today as a museum and welcomes visitors during regular operating hours.
The basement once held prison cells and wine storage spaces that reveal the building's practical uses in earlier times. The ground floor was reached through arcaded entrances and served as a merchant hall for local traders.
