Muzeum dla Dzieci, Children's Museum in Warsaw, Poland

Muzeum dla Dzieci, a branch of the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, opened in 2012 at 1 Kredytowa Street. Its rooms, designed by Alena Trafimava and Klara Jankiewicz, include a hall with Janusz Korczak's Tree of Children's Rights, "My Book" with workshop tables, "Book of Home" with palms and large drawing boards, "Book of Stories" with a carpet, cushions and shadow theatre, and "Book of Things" with toys, distorting mirrors and costumes from around the world.

Muzeum dla Dzieci opened in 2012 as a branch of the Państwowe Muzeum Etnograficzne w Warszawie, created during that museum's modernisation. It was the first museum initiative of its kind in Poland: an exhibition where children may touch the exhibits, play and learn. In 2014 it began running ethnographic half-camps during summer and winter holidays.

The name refers to Janusz Korczak's "Tree of Rights of the Child" in the hall, and the rooms are named after books: "My Book", "Book of the House", "Book of Stories" and "Book of Things". In "Book of Things" children try on costumes from around the world and look into curved mirrors; "Book of Stories" holds a shadow theatre and globes. The museum also runs ethnographic half-camps during summer and winter holidays.

The museum is at Kredytowa 1, inside the State Ethnographic Museum building, and its rooms are laid out for free movement and hands-on play rather than roped-off display. Workshops are grouped by children's age, and since 2014 the museum runs ethnographic half-day camps during summer and winter school breaks. Staff also lead sessions in the Ethnographic Museum's storage rooms, normally closed to the public.

The museum's interiors were designed by Alena Trafimava and Klara Jankiewicz, and the hall holds a Tree of Children's Rights after Janusz Korczak. Since 2014 the museum has run ethnographic half-camps during summer and winter holidays, and staff also lead classes in the normally closed storerooms of the State Ethnographic Museum.
