Targ Maślany Street in Gdańsk

The narrow street contains restored brick buildings from different periods, stretching along the Motława River with preserved architectural elements from the 19th century.

Established in 1650 as a butter trade center, the area featured a designated marketplace where merchants conducted transactions under the supervision of butter captains.

The street accommodated the Municipal Gymnasium from 1837, which became one of the leading educational institutions in Gdańsk for teaching selected students.

The street currently undergoes extensive renovation works, including the transformation of two historical buildings into office spaces with modern facilities.

The area functioned as a specialized market where butter arrived primarily through water routes, leading to the establishment of dedicated weighing stations.
