Pod Zrębem Tower in Gdańsk, Gothic fortified tower in Gdańsk, Poland.
Pod Zrębem Tower is a cylindrical fortified structure in Gdańsk with a truncated wall and conical roof. Four dormers surround a central pinnacle at the peak of the structure.
The tower was built around 1400 as a defensive fortification for the city. As weaponry advanced, it lost its military purpose and later served as a storage facility.
The tower reflects medieval construction methods and sits within Gdańsk's network of historical fortifications. It stands among other Gothic buildings that define the old town's character.
Visitors can view the structure from the outside, as the tower is fenced off for safety reasons. Walking around the building from different angles helps you see the architectural details clearly.
The northern side of the tower partially collapsed on March 3, 1982, leaving an unusual silhouette that remains visible today. This damage is still clearly apparent in the building's asymmetrical shape.
