The structure changed its name from Salazar Bridge to 25 de Abril Bridge in 1974, marking the date of the Portuguese revolution that ended dictatorship.
Vehicles entering Lisbon pay a toll of 2.10 euros, while the lower deck accommodates rail traffic with 157 daily train crossings between both banks.
The bridge shares structural design elements and the same orange color with the Golden Gate Bridge, as both were created by the American Bridge Company.
