Roman Temple of Évora

The temple features fourteen granite columns with Corinthian capitals, standing at a height of eight meters on an elevated stone platform.

Built in the first century during Augustus Caesar's reign, the structure transformed from a religious site into a medieval tower and butcher shop.

The temple represents classical Roman engineering within Portugal's architectural heritage, exhibiting characteristics of Corinthian design and imperial construction methods.

Located in Largo do Conde de Vila Flor, the temple remains open for visitors throughout the day without entrance fees.

The granite foundation and columns survived Germanic invasions, medieval modifications, and centuries of repurposing while maintaining original Roman architectural elements.
