Lisbon Oceanarium, Public aquarium in Parque das Nações, Portugal
The Lisbon Oceanarium holds 16,000 marine creatures from 450 species in a central tank containing 5 million liters of seawater.
The oceanarium opened its doors in 1998 as a centerpiece of the World Exposition Expo '98, which focused on ocean preservation and marine life.
The facility maintains four distinct habitat zones representing the North Atlantic, Antarctic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean environments with their characteristic species.
The oceanarium welcomes visitors daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with direct access from the Oriente metro station on the Red Line.
The building stands on a pier within an artificial lagoon, featuring architecture that mirrors the design of an aircraft carrier.
