Church of the Jesuit College

The Church of the Jesuit College is a large religious building with a rectangular nave and several attached side chapels. The exterior walls are divided by Tuscan pilasters and painted surfaces, while the interior features decorative azulejo tiles that cover key areas of the main altar.

Construction started in 1568 after a local benefactor provided support to the Jesuit order. The community established itself here in 1570 and built a college that became an important center for teaching and religious life.

This church served as the spiritual center of the Jesuit community and its layout reflects the order's educational and devotional practices. Visitors can still sense how the space was designed for both teaching and worship, with multiple chapels arranged to accommodate different ceremonies and gatherings.
