Rabo de Peixe

Rabo de Peixe is an administrative division in Ribeira Grande municipality on São Miguel Island in the Azores. The area is the largest parish in its jurisdiction by population and covers roughly 17 square kilometers.

The Church of Senhor Bom Jesus was built between 1690 and 1735 with Baroque architectural features serving as the religious center. This structure reflects the spiritual importance the parish held across the centuries.

Two philharmonic bands keep musical traditions alive in the community, with members performing at local celebrations and events. These ensembles have deep roots in the social fabric and remain active gathering places for residents.

A former military airfield in the Santana plain once served as the first civilian airport in the Azores before air traffic moved elsewhere. This site marks an important chapter in the region's aviation development.
