The Estrela Basilica features two prominent bell towers and a central dome made of grey, pink, and yellow marble geometric patterns.
Queen Maria I commissioned the basilica in 1779 to honor her vow after giving birth to Prince Jose, who died before its completion.
The basilica contains a permanent exhibition of 500 terracotta and cork figures forming Portugal's largest nativity scene created by Machado de Castro.
The basilica maintains daily operating hours from 9:00 to 11:30 and 15:00 to 16:00, with separate fees for the nativity room and dome terrace.
The structure stands as the first church worldwide dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, containing the marble tomb of Queen Maria I.
