Quinta da Bacalhoa, Renaissance palace in Azeitão, Portugal

Palácio da Quinta das Torres is a Renaissance estate in Azeitão with four corner towers surrounding a central courtyard. The building features a decorative stone portal at its entrance and now operates as a private event venue.

Construction of this aristocratic estate began around 1560 and became a notable example of Portuguese Renaissance architecture influenced by Italian design. The family later expanded the property with gardens and additional structures that reflected its importance.

The interior rooms display intricate wooden ceilings and walls covered in decorative majolica tiles that show scenes from classical stories. These decorations reveal the refined taste of the family who lived here.

The estate sits along National Road EN10 between Vila Fresca and Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, making it accessible by this main route. Since it operates as a private event venue, visits are typically only possible during special occasions or with prior permission.

A small lake near the building holds a temple structure at its center and is surrounded by extensive gardens and mature trees. This water feature with its central temple creates a peaceful retreat within the property.
