Igreja e Convento do Pópulo, Religious complex in Braga, Portugal.

Igreja e Convento do Pópulo is a religious complex in Braga with a Neoclassical facade decorated with blue and white tiles. The interior spaces feature tile work attributed to artist Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes throughout.

Archbishop Agostinho de Jesus commissioned construction of this complex in 1596 and chose it as his final resting place. The building later underwent transformations to serve different purposes while maintaining its core structure.

The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, reflecting ties between Portuguese and Italian religious traditions. This choice shows how Marian devotion connected communities across different regions.

Visitors can access the church on most days, while former monastery sections now house municipal offices. The two functions coexist in the same building, so checking opening hours beforehand helps plan your visit.

Between 2020 and 2021, major restoration work preserved the building's architectural features through substantial investment. These efforts ensured the complex retains its original character for future visitors.
