Saint George's Church, Anglican church in northern Estrela district, Lisbon, Portugal.
Saint George's Church is an Anglican place of worship in the northern Estrela district designed in Romanesque Revival style, featuring blind arcades, a prominent rose window, and stained glass windows created by Lavers & Westlake of London. The building displays architectural details typical of late 19th-century Anglican churches in continental Europe.
An earlier building at this site dated from 1822 but was destroyed by fire in 1886, prompting the construction of the present church. The new structure was completed in 1889 and has served the Anglican community since then.
The congregation brings together people from many countries who gather for services conducted in English, sustaining Anglican traditions in a predominantly Catholic city. The space reflects the presence of the British community in Lisbon.
The church welcomes visitors during regular Sunday morning services, which represent the main gathering time for the community. Those interested in attending should plan to arrive during these scheduled times, as the building serves as an active place of worship.
The cemetery holds 31 Commonwealth War Graves honoring soldiers who died during the World Wars. Also buried here are writer Henry Fielding and hymn composer Philip Doddridge, two historical figures with connections to the city.
