Convento de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is a historic structure of worship situated in Arroios, Lisbon. The building features a main facade with royal emblems and an interior decorated with baroque elements typical of Portuguese religious architecture from that period.
Construction began in 1630 during the reign of Philip II of Portugal. The building survived significant damage from a fire in 1734 and the major earthquake in 1755.
The name honors the incarnation of Christ, reflecting the religious purpose at its foundation. Today visitors notice the royal connections displayed through the coat of arms on the main facade.
The convent sits close to Independence Palace and the National Theatre of Dona Maria II in central Lisbon. The location is walkable and accessible from surrounding neighborhoods.
The church interior features blue and white glazed tiles installed during the early 18th century. These decorative elements were added under the patronage of Kings João V and José.
