Jardim Botânico do Porto

The Porto Botanical Garden extends across 4 hectares with three distinct levels containing formal gardens, greenhouses, an arboretum, and a large lake.

The garden originated from the Campo Alegre Estate, purchased in 1895 by João Henrique Andresen, before becoming a botanical institution under University of Porto in 1951.

Portuguese writers Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Ruben A grew up in this garden, later incorporating their experiences into their literary works.

The garden welcomes visitors from 9:00 to 18:00 between November and March, and from 9:00 to 19:00 between April and October, with guided tours available.

The garden features two intertwined J-shaped hedges, commemorating the initials of João and Joana Andresen, alongside century-old camellia collections.
