Palácio Calheta, 17th-century noble palace in Ajuda, Portugal

The Palácio dos Condes da Calheta spans two floors with uneven sections and features a long iron balcony on its southern facade overlooking the garden.

In 1726, King João V acquired the palace, which later served as the location for interrogations following an assassination attempt on King José I in 1758.

The palace walls display traditional Portuguese tiles from the 17th and 18th centuries depicting hunting scenes, pastoral life, and military events.

Located at Rua General João de Almeida 15 in Ajuda, the palace houses the Documentation Center of the Tropical Scientific Research Institute.

The palace contains a specialized wood collection called Xiloteca on its first floor, contributing to scientific research and documentation.
