Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation headquarters

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation headquarters incorporates modernist architecture with extensive gardens, housing exhibition spaces, concert halls, and research facilities across its campus.

Established in 1956 following the will of oil industrialist Calouste Gulbenkian, the foundation opened its current headquarters in 1969, designed by architects Ruy Athouguia, Pedro Cid, and Alberto Pessoa.

The foundation maintains one of Europe's largest private art collections, featuring works from Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Islamic, Asian, and European artistic traditions.

Visitors can access the museum, gardens, library, and concert venues through separate entrances, with guided tours available in multiple languages throughout the week.

The foundation allocates substantial resources to Armenian cultural preservation worldwide, reflecting the heritage of its founder while supporting Portuguese and international initiatives.
