Praia de Afife
Praia de Afife is a wide beach with white sand on the Atlantic coast in northern Portugal, near Viana do Castelo. The sand is soft and warm, with rocks along the shoreline in the northern section that create natural pools at low tide, while a small river called Ribeira de Cabanas flows through and gently meets the sea.
The beach has been a favorite spot for locals and travelers for many years. Since 1987, it has held the Blue Flag award, recognizing good water quality and proper maintenance of the area.
Praia de Afife is a place where locals and visitors spend long afternoons, especially during warm months. Families come with children, groups of friends meet to relax, and many use the time to photograph the surroundings.
The beach is supervised by lifeguards during the bathing season from June to September, positioned at easily spotted stations. The promenade next to the beach is pleasant to walk along, with cafes and snack stands where visitors can relax and purchase refreshments.
The waters regularly show good conditions for surfing and bodyboarding with moderate waves, and local groups occasionally host small competitions at this spot. The constantly shifting sandbars create different wave patterns depending on the tide.
