Praia de Vila Praia de Âncora, Atlantic sand beach in Vila Praia de Âncora, Portugal
Praia de Vila Praia de Âncora is an Atlantic sand beach stretching from a fishing port to the mouth of the Âncora river. The coastline features wide sandy shores with strong waves and is divided into distinct sections.
The settlement received village status in 1924 and was renamed from Santa Marinha de Gontinhães to Vila Praia de Âncora. This change marked the beginning of its growth as a coastal community.
The Sea and Sardine Festival happens near the port during the second week of June, showcasing local seafood and regional wines from the area.
The northern section is easily reached from the nearby port, while the southern area is served by wooden walkways and parking spaces. Sunshade rentals and showers are available in both areas, making it convenient for a full day at the beach.
The northern part of the coast forms a natural swimming pool near the river mouth with calmer water. The southern section is home to protected sand dunes called Dunas do Caldeirão, which create their own small ecosystem.
