Chalet da Condessa de Edla, Alpine-style chalet in Pena Park, Sintra, Portugal.

The Chalet da Condessa de Edla is an alpine-style residence set in the western section of Pena Park with a two-story structure. Its walls feature cork linings, painted decorations, and intricate woodwork throughout the interior and exterior.

The building was constructed between 1864 and 1869 when King Fernando II commissioned it for his second wife Elise Hensler. She later received the title of Countess of Edla.

The chalet blends Swiss building styles with Portuguese materials, featuring local cork and ceramics throughout its rooms and surfaces. This combination creates a distinct character that reflects a meeting between two worlds.

The chalet is part of Pena Park and is accessed through a combined ticket with Pena Palace. Walking through the park paths offers the best experience for exploring the area and viewing different sections.

The outer walls are decorated with patterns made from cork bark pieces arranged in geometric shapes. This cork design integrates thoughtfully with the garden landscape that surrounds the building.
