Capitol of Palau

The Capitol of Palau contains three distinct sections housing the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the national government in separate wings of the structure.

Construction of the Capitol began in 1999 and reached completion in 2006, funded through a 20 million dollar loan from Taiwan to strengthen diplomatic relations.

The building stands on a hilltop in Ngerulmud, a location traditionally used by locals to present fermented angelfish as offerings to their deities.

The Capitol experiences maintenance challenges due to climate conditions, including ventilation system problems and structural issues that affect daily operations.

This governmental center serves as the focal point of Ngerulmud, which holds the distinction of being the least populated capital city of any sovereign nation.
