Commercialbank Plaza, Office tower and bank building on the Corniche, Doha, Qatar
Commercialbank Plaza is a 22-floor office tower on the Doha Corniche, designed by London-based architecture firm LOM. Built from glass and steel, it houses the headquarters of Commercial Bank of Qatar alongside office space for international tenants.
The tower was completed in 2009 and officially opened by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, who was then Qatar's Prime Minister. It was built during a period when Doha was adding many new towers that reshaped the city center.
The tower sits along the Doha Corniche, a stretch of waterfront that locals walk along in the evenings. Its glass facade mirrors the light off the Gulf, making it a recognizable point of reference along the promenade.
The tower stands directly on the Corniche promenade and is easy to reach on foot from the waterfront. The surrounding area is busiest on weekday mornings, so visiting outside those hours means a quieter walk around the base.
The building was the first in the Middle East to use a triple-layer glass system with motorized blinds that adjust automatically to direct sunlight. This setup reduces energy use noticeably while keeping the interior well lit throughout the day.
