Pașcani, city in Iași County, Romania
Pașcani is a small municipality in Iași County in northeastern Romania, located along the Siret River. The town centers on a main street with shops and small cafes, surrounded by simple houses with wooden fences and farms scattered in the nearby areas.
The settlement dates back to neolithic times, though it appears in written records only from the 15th century as a village. The area later developed into a municipality by merging several villages, preserving older structures like the Cantacuzino House from the 17th century.
The town takes its name from a former boyar, Oană Pașcă, who owned land here. People gather regularly in parks and town squares for local festivals where traditional costumes and music keep old Moldavian customs alive.
The town lies about 70 kilometers from Iași, Piatra-Neamț, and Suceava, making it accessible for day trips from larger cities. The town center with its shops and cafes is easily walkable, while the surrounding farms and natural spaces along the Siret River are ideal for relaxed walks.
In earlier times, the area was an important railway hub with steam locomotives, and children played near the tracks and in water-filled basins catching fish, experiences that older residents still recall vividly. This railway heritage shaped the town's character, though its role as a transportation center has long since faded.
