Brukenthal’sche Sommerresidenz

The Brukenthal Summer Residence is a baroque palace in Avrig with architecture blending Austrian elements and regional traditions. The estate comprises garden spaces laid out in different European styles along with supporting buildings such as an orangery.

Samuel von Brukenthal began constructing this residence in 1757 while serving as governor under Habsburg rule. Over the following decades, the estate expanded and reflected both the builder's political standing and his taste in art and collections.

The residence served as a gathering place for Saxon noble families who maintained their social traditions within its walls. Visitors can observe how such estates shaped the daily interactions and cultural life of the regional elite.
