Synagogue of Sibiu, Jewish synagogue in Sibiu, Romania
The synagogue features a rectangular structure with red brick cladding, five bays separated by bright yellow columns, and semicircular windows with Star of David decorations.
Hungarian architect Ferenc Szalay designed and constructed this eclectic style synagogue between 1898 and 1899, with funds raised by Josef Schwartz.
The interior follows a basilica plan with three naves and arches supporting triforii shaped stands, including specific galleries designated for women during religious services.
The synagogue stands at Constitution Street number 19, with three entrances accessible through a platform of four steps leading to the main doorway.
The main facade displays Hebrew inscriptions and incorporates a stone frieze adorned with plant motifs that divides the ground floor from the first level.
