Sibiu Steam Locomotives Museum, Railway museum in Sibiu, Romania.
The Sibiu Steam Locomotives Museum is a railway museum housed in a former roundhouse facility that displays around 35 locomotives, snowploughs, and rail cranes. The collection includes machines of different sizes and gauges arranged both inside buildings and in open areas.
The collection preserves machines built between 1885 and 1959 that document the history of rail transport in Central Europe. The museum itself was founded in 1994 to save these important vehicles from being scrapped.
The locomotives come from different European and American manufacturers and show Romania's connection to international railway building. Visitors can see how these machines were built differently and what role rail transport played in the country's development.
The museum is located directly across from Sibiu's main railway station and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should wear appropriate daytime clothing and sturdy footwear, as much of the collection is displayed outdoors.
Several of the locomotives still operate today and run special excursions, allowing visitors to experience genuine steam engines in motion. These working examples show how these machines actually functioned and the power they generated.
