White Tower

The White Tower is a solid stone structure with a rounded shape built on rocky ground, featuring multiple levels with openings for observing the surrounding area. Its thick walls and elevated position allowed defenders to watch over the city and approach routes.

Built in 1494, the tower was added to Brașov's defense system during a period when the city faced external threats. It remained part of the city's protective network for many generations.

The tower connects to the craft guilds that once lived and worked in the city, as these communities played a direct role in maintaining its defenses. Walking around it today, you can see how the structure reflects the priorities of a working medieval city rather than just military power.

Reaching the top requires climbing a steep staircase that demands physical effort and takes time. Wear sturdy shoes and set aside enough time for a slow, careful climb to safely manage the steps.

The tower could originally be entered only by a movable ladder, keeping attackers out while protecting those inside. This simple but effective security measure reveals the practical thinking of medieval defenders.
