The museum is located in the former Council House building, exhibiting over 159,000 historical artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to present day.
Founded in February 1949, the institution began its collection by incorporating items from the Barsa Land Saxon Museum and the ASTRA Association Museum.
The museum exhibits feature medieval ceramics, Iron Age tools, vintage furnishings, historical documents, and guild products representing regional craftsmanship.
Entry costs 7 RON for adults, with reduced rates for students and seniors, while the museum operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The museum contains a research library of 15,000 volumes and presents archaeological findings from Roman castles in the surrounding Brașov region.
