Buridava

Buridava is an ancient fortified settlement whose remains sit on a hilltop around 350 meters (1,150 feet) above sea level near the Olt River. The site features defensive stone walls and underground chambers that reveal how the settlement was organized and protected.

This fortified center served as the seat of the Buri tribe until the Roman conquest in the early 2nd century. The settlement was destroyed around 101 CE during Rome's military campaign to control the region.

This settlement served as a major hub for salt production and trade, a role that shaped the daily life and economic activities of those who lived here.

Access to the site requires arrangement through local guides, as it remains an active archaeological area. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for steep terrain on the hilltop.

A pottery fragment discovered at the site bears an inscription naming what may be a local ruler called Thiamarcos. This rare written record offers direct insight into the leadership of this tribal center.
