Bucharest Botanical Garden, Botanical garden with 18 hectares in Cotroceni district, Romania.
The Bucharest Botanical Garden is a large collection of plant species from across the globe arranged across distinct cultivation sections within the grounds. Inside there are greenhouses filled with tropical and subtropical plants alongside open areas that hold flowering plants, trees, and useful plant species.
The garden was founded in the mid 1800s and found its final location in Bucharest some decades later under new leadership. The buildings and infrastructure were expanded and developed in the early 1900s.
The garden serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors experience the plant world up close, finding quiet moments among the collections. People walk through the different sections to learn about plants that grow across the world and understand their importance to daily life.
The garden is easy to walk through with broad paths leading across the different sections, allowing visitors to move at their own pace. It is helpful to wear comfortable shoes and set aside time for exploring, since the space is large and varied.
One of the oldest greenhouse structures on the grounds was built following Belgian design models and shows international exchange in garden architecture of the late 1800s. The building still stands today and demonstrates how European gardens inspired one another.
